I have worked in 50,000+ employee organizations that ran networks and services that serve customers across the globe. I know what it's like to be woken up at 2am to diagnose and resolve a critical nationwide outage, as well as managing a network of service provider networking equipment. I also know how businesses manage the complexity of protecting sensitive personal information for citizens across the globe. I make sure to treat these situations in a way that reflects the criticality of these situations. I manage uptime like it's my own network that is down and treat sensitive data like it's my own personal data and protect it accordingly.

I know that in complex situations like this being able to convey the situation clearly to leadership is key. I work hard to make sure that I can effectively communicate the technology needs to management in a way that makes the needs clear without talking down to anyone. I am a very effective communicator, particularly to those in leadership roles. I work hard to understand that technology is just a means for businesses to accomplish their purposes and that securing technology is critical to the continued success of the business in an ever-changing landscape.

Security and Compliance

I believe that responsibility for security lies with everyone, from a CEO, to a developer, an HR representative, or a parent. My responsibility in this realm is to ensure that proper access is enforced from a technical as well as an administrative point of view. We also need to ensure our claim that access levels match our promised levels by testing, logging, and auditing.Our customers rely on the whole organization to secure the information that they entrust to us and we should not betray that trust.

Networking and Web Development

Networking has always been central to my career. I have a degree in telecommuni- cations and spent many years working for a cable ISP, providing availabilty of voice, video and data networks that spanned the whole United States. This experience has shaped me into someone who values availability and understands the need to design and operate in a way that maintains the highest levels possible. I Have designed and implemented enterprise wireless and wired ethernet networks for large providers.

Server and Storage

Throughout my career having a breadth of knowledge of applications that are used in a world with ever-changing technology. I keep myself educated and aware of emerging technology as well as ensuring I have a depth of knowledge on the most commonly used hardware and software in the server and storage realm. I have designed geo-redundant backup and disaster recovery plans at the enterprise and service provider level. I treat critical data the same way I would treat the most important digital assets I have.

Virtualization and Cloud Computing

I have been using virtualized computing for my whole career, both at the personal and professional level. I believe through virtualization we can make the most efficient use of our computing resources while providing a scalable environment. This extends to the proper use of cloud-based technologies to take advantage of the benefits of cloud-based compute, storage and networking. Cloud computing comes with unique challenges from a security standpoint, but the technology exists to implement cloud infrastructure in a secure manner.
